Anti-Asian hate crimes surged dramatically during the pandemic

Anti-Asian hate crimes increased 150% during the pandemic.

This surge has been attributed to anti-Asian sentiment fueled by flagrant "China virus" and "kung flu" comments from Donald Trump and other leaders.

Videos of elderly Asian Americans being violently attacked on the streets of New York, San Francisco, and Oakland as well as news of Asian Americans being murdered in Atlanta have horrified Asian American communities and the nation in general.

Anti-Asian racism is a new topic for many Americans

Our nation previously did not talk about anti-Asian racism in a large or public way. Because of this, a lot of anti-Asian racism has been swept under the rug or has been hard to identify.

Quickly and thoroughly reviewing anti-Asian hate crimes can help bring much needed insight, clarity, and justice to these issues.
