Social isolation can put seniors at higher risk for physical and mental health challenges
Given the serious risk of COVID-19 to seniors, many seniors are practicing strict physical distancing.
While physical distancing is the safest choice for seniors, there are health risks associated with social isolation and loneliness.
Studies have found that social isolation and loneliness in seniors is associated with a higher risk of dementia, high rates of depression and anxiety, and higher rates of emergency department visits.

While the common phrase is "social distancing," we want to call it "physical distancing."
We can still foster social connection in safe and physically distant ways during the pandemic.
